Agnes Pleasants Sorgi

Agnes Pleasants Sorgi, age 81, died peacefully Sunday, December 28, 2008 ineer Durham home. She was born in Chatham, VA to the late William Arthur Pleasants and Lettie Herndon Pleasants on January 18, 1927. Agnes was preceded ineeath by her husband of 57 years, Walter V. Sorgi. Agnes graduated Durham High School in 1945 and soon thereafter married Walt, who was a catcher with the Durham Bulls baseball team. Together they founded The Sorgi Insurance Agency in 1954. The agency continues as a family business today with her son Jim as the owner and President. Agnes continued to work full time in the agency until her death. Agnes was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Durham where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters Agnes was a wonderful wife and mother to her children. Although she worked every day in the insurance agency, she would always be sure to be home wheneer children got home from school. She touched many people with her warmth and graciousness and will be greatly missed. Agnes is survived by her four children: Donna Sorgi and husband, David Berneein of Jamaica Plain, MA; Vince Sorgi and wife, Carol, of Durham, NC; Jim Sorgi and wife, Monte, of Chapel Hill, NC; and Cathy Sorgi and husband Rick Wilkins, also of Durham; and five grandchildren: Zach Sorgi, Mark Harper, Jessica Sorgi, Olivia Wilkins and Kate Sorgi. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 31, 2008 from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Steve Patti, OFM, presiding. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery followed by a reception in the gathering space of the church. Friends may visit Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Durham.
