Rocky Mount
With her devoted family by her side, Alice Powell Chambers, age 83, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, February 4, 2023, at Brekenridge Retirement Center in Rocky Mount, NC. Born in Allensville, NC on February 8, 1939, she was the daughter of Ozzie B. Powell and Madeline R. Powell.
Alice leaves a loving family, her children John W. Chambers, Jr. and wife, Melanie, Jennifer C. Taylor and husband, Tim, and Dwayne T. Chambers and wife, Michelle; grandchildren, Brooke C. Eyrich, husband, Tim, Jonathon T. Chambers, Melissa C. Rorrer and husband, Samuel, Caroline T. Adams and husband, Clayton, and Caleb H. Chambers; great-grandchildren, William R. Rorrer, Remington D. Rorrer, Henry D. Rorrer, and Cohen N. Adams. She also leaves her beloved sisters, Gracie P. Fletcher, Luna P. Clark, Lucille P. Denny, Shirley P. Sneed, and Joan P. Hester, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ozzie B. Powell and Madeline R. Powell and her sisters, Elsie P. Fitz and Janie P. Carver.
Alice was known to be a hard worker with a quiet spirit. She was an excellent holiday cook, which brought her cherished family together as she always loved. She was a loving “Mema,” as she would do anything for her grandchildren with a teasing side that made time with her fun.
A funeral service to celebrate Alice’s life will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Enon Baptist Church, 2298 Enon Road, Oxford, NC 27565 with Reverend Keith Griffin officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Enon Baptist Church.
