Andrew J. Schmalzried, Sr.

Andrew J. Schmalzried, Sr, age 65, died suddenly at his home on June 24, 2023, in Franklinton, NC. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 16, 1958, to his parents, Harry J. Schmalzried and Lillian Mae Elfrey Schmalzried. He joined his late wife of almost 30 years, Deborah Jean Schmalzried. 

He leaves behind his sons and their families, Andrew J. Schmalzried, Jr; Brian Lee Schmalzried and Matthew Schmalzried.   He was blessed with six grandchildren, Andrew, Amelia, Harison, Maxwell, Lilliana and Owen.  Andy will be greatly missed by his siblings, Ellen Crawford, Harry Schmalzried, Darlene Monte, Theresa Kennedy, Lorraine Langan and Ed Schmalzried and cousins too numerous to name. 

He enjoyed working on classic cars with his sons and grandchildren, listening to music, and spending time with his family. Andy made friends wherever he went. He loved to share stories about growing up in Philadelphia and about his life with his wife. He loved taking his grandchildren to different sporting events and practices and cheering them on.

He was predeceased by his parents and his loving wife, Debbie. 

Visitation and service held at Gentry-Newell and Vaughan, 503 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565 on Saturday, July 1, 2023 from 1-3 pm.  A service will also be held in Pennsylvania at a later date to be determined.
