Ann Smith Parrott, age 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 31, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 13, 1937, in Granville County, Ann was the cherished daughter of the late Thomas K. Smith and Hattie Leigh Adcock Smith. She graduated high school and attended Fuller's Business School as a stenographer and went on to play a very influential and integral role in the functioning of Oxford's city government. Her position as City Clerk and Clerk to the Board of City Commissioners carried a lot of responsibility, ensuring the smooth operation of city affairs and maintaining official records. She met and married her husband, Elbert, and raised a beautiful family.
Ann is survived by her son, Ray Parrott, Jr. (Ronalee), and her bonus son, Randy Green (Mary Anna). She was a proud grandmother to her grandsons, Hunter Parrott and James Green (Mikayla). Ann is also survived by her brother, David Smith (Denise), and her sisters, Hattie Jean Overton (Leonard) and Sally Wynne (Howard). She leaves behind a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends, all of whom will deeply miss her presence.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Elbert Parrott; her daughters, Elizabeth Raye Parrott and Debra Parrott Green; her brother, Thomas K. “Smitty” Smith; and her sisters, Frances Bullock and Rebecca Lewis.
A funeral service to honor Ann’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Oxford, NC. The service will be officiated by Reverend Tim Atkinson and Reverend William Wheeler. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm in the fellowship hall prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
Flowers are welcomed, and memorial contributions can be made to Amedisys Hospice Care in Ann's memory.
