Anna Maureen Psoter, known to her friends and family as Maureen, Mo, or MoMo, passed away on Friday October 13, 2023 at her home in Durham, NC. The weeks preceding her death were filled with love and laughter through the many visits and calls from her family and friends.
Mo was born in Amesbury, MA in 1951 to the late Raymond and Janie (Toole) Newman. She grew up in Haverhill, MA attending St. James High School before studying at Northern Essex Community College and Northeastern University to become a radiologic technologist. Highly respected in her profession, Mo’s career spanned five decades across three states. In 1973, Mo met Walter, the love of her life and husband of forty-nine and half years, while working in Boston, MA. They married in 1974 and became the proud parents to three children. While she played many roles throughout her life, all paled in comparison to that of being “MoMo” to her much adored grandchildren. She will always be remembered as someone who sacrificed to help out those closest to her.
A long-time resident of Ludlow, MA, Mo and Walter made a short trip to Durham, NC in 2020 and never left. Mo enjoyed the warm temperatures and was thrilled to wear shorts at Christmas time. When Mo was not working, she could be found puzzling, shopping, or watching movies, old Western’s being her favorite. Some of her most enjoyable times came while traveling throughout the US and abroad with Walter.
Mo was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law Robert Grote. She is survived by Walter, daughter Jodi, daughter Karla and son-in-law Jeremy, son Kevin and daughter-in-law Christina, and her beloved grandchildren Nik, Marina, Kris, Heidi, Beatrix, Regan, Shannon, and Dylan. She also leaves behind her dear sister Paula Paradis and Michael, brother Lawrence Newman and Jean Kuo, brother in-law Carl Psoter and Susan, brother in-law Eugene Psoter, many nieces and nephews, and her countless friends.
Mo’s family extends their thanks and deepest gratitude to Angela and Brenda, long-time caregivers and friends to Mo. Your caring, compassion, humor, and dedication will always be remembered.
Plans will be made for a memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made to Parkinson’s Foundation as a Tribute Gift in Mo’s name.
