Barbara Alice Ethridge

DURHAM –Barbara Alice Ethridge, age 74, died at Hillcrest Convalescent Center on December 19, 2022. A Durham native, she was born on October 27, 1948, to the late Charlie William Ethridge and Clara Alice O’Briant Ethridge.

Barbara was a graduate of Northern High School Class of 1967. After high school, she took several continuing education classes, including Spanish and customer relations. Barbara was employed by the Durham County Department of Health and Human Services of Social Services for 36 years as a receptionist and part-time by Sears as a customer service representative before her retirement in 2006. During her employment, she received many service awards from Social Services for exceptional performance.

Barbara enjoyed watching western movies, playing games, or putting puzzles together. She loved reading mysteries. Barbara often tried a different hairdo or new shade of nail polish for a special treat. She loved her friends, but she loved nothing more than her five precious cats. It was her passion to live in her own home with her feline family and live her life to the fullest.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Billy Ethridge, and her stepmother, Rosa Lee Ethridge.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, in the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. The Rev. Dr. Randy Carter and Rev. Deitra Arrington-Cates will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends will greet before the service from 10:00 -11:00 AM in the chapel.
