Barbara Dianne Newman

February 5, 1952 — February 20, 2022

Dianne Godwin Newman, of Durham, North Carolina, and born on February 5, 1952 in Waynesboro, Virginia, died at Durham Regional Hospital on February 20, 2022 of heart failure.  She was a cherished daughter, treasured sister, devoted and loving wife, loving mother, and beloved grandmother.  She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Glenn Lee Newman, Sr.; two children, Glenn Lee Newman, Jr. married to Amber Watson and Jon B. Newman and his partner Holly Maxwell; as well as two granddaughters, Morgan Lee Portugal Newman and Rose Velvet Newman. She is also survived by her parents, Reverend James Badger Godwin, Sr. and Lula Ellen Godwin of Reedville, Virginia. As well as her two brothers, James Badger Godwin, Jr and Carl Spencer Godwin who is married to Teri Godwin. She graduated from Orange High School in 1970.  She spent many years working as an administrative assistant at local schools and churches.  She was a member of the choir at St Paul United Methodist Church in Durham and had been a featured soloist in many church choirs throughout her life.  She took the time to make folks feel special by ensuring that everyone in her church received birthday cards.  Dianne made all of us who knew her better people and will be missed greatly.


In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Music Department of St Paul United Methodist Church 2700 N. Roxboro St.  Durham, NC 27704.
