Barbara Hughes Simonton

Barbara Hughes Simonton, 80, of Oxford, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, August 29, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Basil B. Hughes (Jeff) and Odell Seate Hughes. She was preceded ineeath by her late husband, Wesley Maynard Averette. Barbara is survived by her husband, John E. Simonton; children, Cindy Bryan (Ben) of Oxford, Bonee Averette of Raleigh, Greg Simonton (Conee) of Oxford, Kim Cowan (Jerry) of Middletown, PA, Sean Simonton (Michelle) of Christiansburg, VA; siblings, Patsy Fastige (Tony) of Richmond, VA, Ben Hughes (Hilda) of Oxford, Susan Cox (Pat) of Oxford; twelve grandchildreneeight great grandchildren; and many other loving family and friends. Barbara was born with a passion to care for others. She spent many happy years nursing at Granville Hospital, in a private practice in Oxford and found great joy in providing care for friends and family members wheneer needed. Her creative talents were many: sewing, gardening and floral design, painting, and cooking delicious meals for special family gatherings. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and the time she spent with them was precious to her. Her greatest loves were the Lord, her family, and growing beautiful flowers. Her concern and generosity for others knew no bounds. The family will receive friends for visitation at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 4, 2017 at Oxford Baptist Church fellowship hall, 147 Main St., Oxford with the Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary. The Rev. Christopher Aho will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Hester Baptist Church Cemetery, 6581 NC Hwy 96, Oxford, NC 27565.
