Surrounded by loved ones, Barbara Wynne Adams, age 89, peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on February 7, 2022. She took with her a soul that radiated love, faith and joy since being born into this world on October 8, 1932.
Barbara was deeply committed to her faith, her family, her friends and the Lowe’s Grove Baptist Church community. Alongside the love of her life, Arthur “Coco” Adams, she created a home that was always good for a memorable (and lively!) conversation, a daily devotional, a country style steak and butter bean dinner, a Duke basketball game, belly laughs, crazy Christmas hat competitions, girl’s nights, annual gingerbread house builds and always, a glass of cheap red wine.
She loved keeping up with her family and made sure that each December, the Wynne Christmas reunion was well attended … including a visit from Santa. She was the star of group texts with the funniest, emoji-filled responses you could ever imagine. When she wasn’t teaching Sunday school – which she did for 40+ years – she could be found collecting seashells and basking in the Emerald Isle, NC sun.
Her heart was open, accepting and giving. Her love was fierce and graceful. She lived to serve. If you were happy or sad or just needed a friend, she was there. It is these things we will miss the most, yet we all live on with the profound mark she left on our lives.
Barbara’s legacy vibrantly lives on through her sons Kris (Allyson) and Kirk Adams; her adopted son Danny Gooch; her granddaughters Kristen Adams (Rob Senter), Kourtney Vaughan (Chris) and Danielle Dixon (Aris); her grandsons Keenan Adams and Daniel Burnell; her great grandchildren Camden Thompson, Bentley Adams, Reese Senter, Julia Jordan Senter, Logan Vaughan and Ava Jordan Dixon; many beloved nieces and nephews; life-long friends and her loving caregivers Angela Thomas and Juanita Howard.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Arthur “Coco” Adams; her parents Andrew and Ollie Wynne; her grandson Jordan Adams; her seven brothers and sisters Buck, Nellie, Claiborne, Howard, James, Francis and Earl and her spunky dachshund “Prince.”
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lowe’s Grove Baptist Church, Durham Rescue Mission, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and/or Duke Hospice; A special thanks to Duke Hospice for providing exceptional care and comfort these last few months.
A funeral will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 11 AM at Lowes Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Gerald Goodwin and Rev. Woody Freeze officiating.
