Belle W Mudano

DURHAM – Belle Wagstaff Mudano, age 94, died in Durham, North Carolina on December 7th, 2022. She was born on March 3rd, 1928 in Roxboro, North Carolina.

Belle grew up on a tobacco farm in Person County. In 1954 she married Rosario Mudano of Long Island, New York, and for 66 years they were inseparable. She worked as a medical technologist for over 40 years and retired from Duke Hospital in 1993.

Belle was a prolific knitter. Over the years she knit nearly one hundred stockings for members of her extended family. They will rest over warm hearths this Christmas and for many Christmases to come as reminders of her thoughtfulness and dedication to those she loved. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing all sorts of games, passions she passed on to her children. She always completed the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle in ink – an indicator not only of her acumen for word play, but also of her steadfast and resolute nature.

Belle was preceded in death by her husband Rosario in 2020. She is survived by two daughters, Jane Mudano of Durham and Cathryn Mudano DuBow (Richard) of Atlanta, Georgia, three grandchildren, Gregory (Kristi), Daniel, and Claire DuBow, and one great-grandchild, Charlotte DuBow.
