Benjamin Gorman Swann, Jr.

February 2, 1928 — October 11, 2023

Mr. Benjamin Gorman “B.G.” Swann, age 95, of Oxford, NC died on, Wednesday, October 11, 2023. He was born in Piney Point, Maryland on February 2, 1928, to his late parents, Benjamin Gorman Swann and Anita Guyther Swann.


Benjamin was a man of quiet faith and fortitude. He served in the Army at the end of World War II and was stationed in Japan. He re-enlisted in the Air Force and was a radio operator on a C124 during the Korean War. He was stationed in Korea. He then returned to St. Mary’s County, Maryland where he started working for the telephone company (C&P) and retired 33 years later. He was known for his wit and humor, his kindness and his woodworking.


Benjamin is survived by his wife of 70 years, Barbara Thompson Swann and his daughters; Donna Jean Swann Landry, Tina Marie Swann Davidson, and Janet Swann Ross (Andy); his grandchildren, Heather Landry Whitehead (Trey), Nikki Tingen, DeLauren Jeffreys (Ryan), Laci Davidson, and Jesse Griffin (Sarah). His beautiful great-grandchildren, Ava, Cade, Benjamin, Kennedy, Zoey and Cayden, will miss him and also his extended family and friends too numerous to name.


A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, at St. James Catholic Church at 10:00 am. Visitation will follow after the service in the Fellowship Hall.


Flowers are welcome and accepted, or you may make donations to a Hospice Facility of your choice.
