Benjamin Joseph Green
April 6, 1941 – October 7, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Benjamin Joseph Green, 82, on October 7, 2023, at Duke University Hospital, Durham, North Carolina. He was born in Sayer, PA to Willis and Eleanor Green.
Benjamin is survived by his wife, Rosemary Hayes Green, son, Benjamin Joseph Green, Jr. (Cathy), and his sister Barbara Green Collie (Joseph). Stepdaughters Michelle M Gregory (Randy) and Kimberly M Jones and stepson Russell H. McClain, Jr. (Lauren). Grandchildren Benjamin J. Green III (Annie); Nicholas Green; Henry M Gregory; Waverly V. Jones, IV, and Jordan C. McClain; great granddaughter Bailey Green; nephews Charles Collie (Betsy), Scott Collie (Amy) and Paul Collie. Great nephews Lucas Collie, Sam Collie, Jackson Collie and Alex Collie and great niece Clair Collie. He was preceded in death by both parents.
After Graduation from Waverly High School in New York, Benjamin enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served four years at Cherry Point MCAS and was given an honorable discharge. Eventually he returned home where he started a sales career in the RV business starting a company Wheel Estates.
His love for the ocean brought him back to Carteret County where he enjoyed many years of fishing both offshore and inshore. He built and owned the Bill Collector, Jarrett Bay Hull Number 11. He continued his career at Jarrett Bay Yacht Sales selling Jarrett Bay and other sportfishing boats. All during his life he also enjoyed hunting deer and spending time in the woods. He will be greatly missed by his hunting companions.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday October 14, 2023, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Beaufort, NC at 11am. The burial will be held on Monday October 16 at Maplewood Cemetery, Durham at 2pm. The family will receive friends and family at Hall-Wynne Funeral home at 1pm on Monday prior to the burial.
The family would like to express appreciation to Duke Cancer Center, Duke Emergency Room and support that health care providers, family and friends have given during his illness.
