Bertha Hustede Whitmore, 93, died May 9, 2013 at Duke Uneersity Hospital. She was born ineeimar, TX to the late Gustav Charlie Hustede and Mary Louise Koehn Hustede. Bertha was an avid gardener. She was raised on a farm in southeast Texas and always loved farm life. She constantly monitored the weather and worried about how it was affecting the farmers. She was always more concerned about others thaneerself, keeping in touch with many former co-workers and childhood friends. She shared generously the fruits of her gardening. She always loved to have flowers around; they raised her spirits. We thank the Lord that she was able to live independently, had a sharp mind right up to the last days of her life, and passed peacefully ineer sleep. Bertha is survived by her son, Roy Walter Whitmore and wife, Marilynn Turner Whitmore of Durham, NC; her grandchildren, Aaron Turner Whitmore and Amy Marie Maynard, and her great-grandchildreneemma Marie Maynard and Abigail Turner Maynard.
