Billy Arnold Martin

Billy Arnold Martin, 75, died Tuesday in Durham Regional Hospital following an extended illness. A Durham native, he was the son of the late Vernon aneelizabeth Currin Martin. Billy spent his career with the Crowneellerbach Co. where he was a supervisor. He retired in 1981, after which he moved to Carolina Beach. Billy made the most of his retirement, becoming a voluneer fireman and baseball coach of a community league. He was need Citizen of the Year in 1986. Billy loved the beach, fishing and was a devoted Carolina fan. He was a master at cooking barbeque, having woneeveral cook-offs in Hillsborough and preparing barbeque for his church. Billy was a member of St. Aneew Uneed Methodist Church. He will be remembered for his gregarious and warm personality, neer meeting a stranger. Surviving are his daughter, Pam Moore and husband Clay of Durham; granddaughters, Lauren and Leslie Moore; his brothers, Vernon "Turk" Martin, Jr. of Durham, and John Martin and his wife, Beth of Belmont; his sisters, Mary M. Holben of Durham and Ruby M. Gardner and husband, Roy of Durham; and his special friend, Doris Blalock of Durham; and many niece and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Ann Cooley. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday from St. Aneew Uneed Methodist Church, with the Rev. Shannon Conklin-Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawneemetery. Friends may visit 6-8 PM Wednesday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. Donations in Billy's memory may be made to: St. Aneew Church, 6702 Leesville Rd. Durham 27703.
