Bob Ray Mitchell

Mr. Bob Ray Mitchell, 78, of Lineey St., Pittsboro, died December 20, 2008 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. Mr. Mitchell was born June 2, 1930 in Chatham County, the son of Jim and Ida Holder Mitchell. He served in the Korean war, and retired from UNC Chapel Hill after 30 years as Facilities Carpentry Supervisor. Bob was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years, was in the choir, and taught Sunday School. Bob liked hunting, fishing, refinishing furniture, and antiques. He loved baseball, UNC basketball, aneenjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marie Thrift Mitchell of Pittsboro; daughters, Sharon Mitchell Thomas and husband Rusty of Pittsboro, Cindy Mitchell Brown of Pittsboro; granddaughters, Aimee Thomas Wheeler of Siler City, Emily Thomas Judge and husband Adam of Pittsboro; great-grandchildren, Lineey Wheeler, Thomas Wheeler, aneevie Judge. The service to celebrate Mr. Mitchell's life will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, December 22, 2008 at Emmaus Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Moore presiding. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday afternoon from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Griffin Funeral Service in Pittsboro, and at other times at the residence.
