Brendan Alexander Elwell

October 18, 1972 — January 7, 2024

Brendan Alexander Elwell, 51, passed in Durham, North Carolina on January 7th, 2024. Born in Portland, Oregon to Lynn and Josephine Elwell, the family lived in Seattle before settling in Durham where Brendan spent his childhood.

Brendan attended grade school locally before completing his Bachelors in Communications at Methodist University in Fayetteville in 1995.

Brendan was a hardworking man. He began working with Lumen Technologies (formally known as Century Link) in 2001 as a Network technician. During his time, he earned numerous awards and promotions such as the Cisco Certified Network Associate technical Certification (CCNA) in 2017, then was promoted from a Level 2 technician to an Operations Technician (Level 3) in 2018. He maintained customer’s networks and ensured they were up and operating efficiently.

Brendan is survived by his wife of 26 years, Minerva Elwell; and and his son, Michael Elwell.  As a family they enjoyed playing continuous games of Monopoly, grilling on Sundays before the Philadelphia Eagles games, binging various actions films starring the Rock, and comedy movies starring Will Ferrell. He and his son watched the entire series of “Psych” at least 2 or 3 times.

Brendan loved immersing himself with hobbies and pastimes. He played basketball, baseball, football, went fishing, and played poker with his son and father quite often. He loved going to Durham Bulls games. He was a history buff who enjoyed reading and watching civil war reenactments, and visiting history museums.

Brendan enjoyed relaxing in his spare time. He loved finding new ways to relax and fall asleep. Whether that be a long walk, or nap on the beach listening to the waves, sitting outside in the rain or bird-watching. Brendan's favorite was playing golf and intensely loved keeping up with The Majors. He often went out to the driving range or golf courses to play alone, or with his father, Lynn.

While he was not the most talkative and was reserved to himself at times, Brendan was usually a man of action. He was always down for small family vacations and gatherings in the mountains and at the beach, specifically the Outer Banks. He loved catching up with his cousins, aunts, and uncles while gathering up the kids to go crabbing on the beach.
