Brigido (lovingly known as “Bhouy”) Cantalejo Tahop, age 75, died at the Durham VA Medical Center on Sunday, March 26. He was born on October 8, 1947 to the late Feliciano Tahop and Felomina Cantalejo Tahop.
Buhouy worked at various VA hospitals as a certified/ nursing/ technician for the last 24 years. He retired from Durham VA Medical Center in 2018. He served in the U.S. Army from 1980-1989. Worked as a Canon Specialist (SGT). Stationed in Korea and Germany and attended the Philippine Institute of Criminology. He graduated from Seaman School in the Philippines and attended high school at Laguna Institute in Laguna, Philippines.
Bhouy played the drums with his brother in his band called Stargazer based in Augusta, Georgia. He loved jazz, hard rock and classic rock music. He also DJ’d at various weddings, birthdays and various events.
He was a member of the Fatima Prayer Group, Fil-Am Association of Raleigh/Durham, NC, member of Saint Bernadette Catholic Church in Buttner, NC.
Loved to travel internationally and try new food and restaurants. Avid cruise line traveler and a lover for buffet restaurants.
Brigido is survived by his wife, Evelyn Laut Tahop of 40 years, in-laws Peter and Olga Liunoras, Ignacio (nephew) and Jennifer Liunoras along with their children, Brandon and Braylenn. Isel (niece) and Brian Mowry along with their children, Finley and Everett. Irene (niece) and Danny Kahline along with their children, Tristan, Rylan and Mila. Joyceanne (niece) and Erik Russell, Katrina (niece) and Nathaniel Farinas along with their child Elias Greilan and Kristian Tahop (nephew) along with nieces and nephews residing in the Philippines. Brigido was preceded in death by his parents, Feliciano Tahop and Felomina Cantalejo Tahop, his brother Gregorio Tahop and half sister, Florencia Taniegra.
On Friday, March 31 the viewing will take place at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home at 1113 W. Main Street, Durham, NC between 6-9 PM.
A church service will take place on Monday, April 3 at 1 PM EST at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Durham, NC. Reception to follow after mass at China Buffet at 3720 Mayfair Street in Durham (near Target). Guests will go straight to the restaurant after the celebration of life for Bhouy.
