OXFORD:  Carolyn Thaxton died on October 28, 2013 after a brief battle with cancer. A native of Granville County, she was born on Christmas Day in 1933 to William Edward and Sophia Ivey Dement on their first wedding anniversary. 

Carolyn spent her entire life living and working in Oxford and retired from Oxford Heating and Cooling, a business she owned and operated with her husband, Dan. She loved being involved ineer community and was a long time, active member of Oxford Baptist Church, Past President of the Mary Jamison's Women's Club and a member of the Granville Chapter of the Daughters of the Confederate. 

She is survived by her children, Phyllis McLaurin and husband Lee, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Walter Wilson and wife Marsha, Oxford, N.C. Mary Ann Godwin and husband Dowell, Durham, N.C, Dian Wilson, Durham, N.C. Step-son, Thaxton and wife Charlotte, Franklinton, N.C. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, her loving sister and brother in laws and a number of nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded death by her husband Dan Thaxton, first husband and father of her children Philip Wilson and a half sister and brother, Leona Beasley Dement. 

The family will receive friends at Gentry neell & Vaughan Funeral Home from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM Wednesday, October 30, 2013. Services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Oxford Baptist Church, to be conducted by Rev. Chris Aho and Dr. J. Steven Bolton. Interment will follow in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.
