Charles Douglas Sirls, Sr.

Mr. Charles Douglas Sirls, Sr., 77, of NC 87 North, Pittsboro, died September 26, 2007 at UNC Hospital. Mr. Sirls was a native of Benton, Kentucky, born neember 3, 1929, to Oscar Dellon Sirls and Nora Mae Farley Sirls. He graduated from Murray State Uneersity, and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Sirls served for over 20 years as the Registrar at the Uneersity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was a member of Brown's Chapel Uneed Methodist Church in Pittsboro. Survivors include his wife, Minee Belle Henderson Sirls; daughter and son-in-law, Lyanne and Phillip Spaneer of Pittsboro; sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Joyce Sirls of Pittsboro, Randy and Liz Sirls of Hampstead, Jamie and Karen Sirls of Pittsboro; five grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Wilburn and George Sirls, Della York, and Iva Fennell, all of Kentucky. The funeral service for Mr. Sirls will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, September 30, 2007 at Browns Chapel Uneed Methodist Church. Rev. Ray Gooch will preside. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 - 6:30 pm Saturday at Griffin Funeral Service in Pittsboro.
