Charles Thomas "Tom" Harton

Charles Thomas "Tom" Harton died peacefully on Saturday the 10th of September after several months of illness. Tom was born oneeptember 9, 1940 to the late Roman Albert, aneedith McPherson Harton. Tom graduated from Durham High School in 1958 and attended Campbell College. He was retired from UNC Psychiatry as department librarian in 2002. Tom taught tennis, was loyal and had a great sense of humor. He is survived by his close partner of 22 years Monica Rector of Carrboro; daughter, Robyn Alyson Harton of Richmond, Virginia; and son, Roman Thomas Harton of Carrboro. He was supported greatly by close friends, Bob and Jeanne Arnts, Marianne Green, Trish Kohler, and Sylvester Tejada. Graveside services will be held 2:00pm Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Maplewood Cemetery, 1621 Duke Uneersity Road, Durham. A Celebration of Life service will also be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Marfan's Foundation as Marfan challenged him the last 10 years of his life. The Harton family is under the care of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.
