Danny Frank Thomerson, a resident of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at the age of 68. Danny was born November 25, 1954, to his late parents Junior Frank Thomerson and Pattie Mae Sizemore Thomerson in Oxford, NC.
Danny’s love of music became evident early on. Learning piano and organ, he started playing while in high school at West Oxford Baptist Church. Finishing at J. F. Webb High School in Oxford, he went on to college for a year at East Carolina University in Greenville, then moving on the Campbell University in Buie’s Creek. While in college, he began an over 20 years posting as organist at Memorial Baptist Church, in Buie’s Creek where he was beloved by a generation of parishioners with his flourishes and modulations. Later, he would substitute on the bench at First Baptist Church on Salisbury Street in Raleigh.
Choral singing as a tenor was a second love, sharing his voice at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, Raleigh; the Raleigh Oratorio Society; First Baptist Church on Salisbury Street; and, with the Choral Society of Durham. With those groups, he was afforded the opportunity to sing at numerous area locations as well as New York City’s Carnegie Hall on at least four occasions.
Employed at Poole Music Company in Cameron Village after college, his wit and infectious smile moved on to various assignments throughout his life, finally finishing with the front desk staff of Blue Ridge Surgery in Raleigh.
Colorectal cancer made its unfortunate presence known in 2020. But he faced it head on with the help of friends, family, faith, and the team at the Rex Cancer Center, Raleigh. But the cancer proved stronger than him, finishing his time on Earth while at home with the help of those same family and friends, as well as the hospice team from Transitions LifeCare of Raleigh.
Danny is survived by his beloved spouse of 28 years; his siblings, Connie Thomerson Hockaday of Cary, NC; Norman David Thomerson (Ralph Comer) of Brentwood, TN; Kay Thomerson Weary of Grassy Creek, NC; and Cynthia Thomerson Stainback (Gary) of Winston-Salem, NC. He will be deeply missed by a large extended family and friends too numerous to name. And a special thanks goes out to Dr. Jeremiah Boles with the Rex Cancer Center whose kind words and skill tried to help make the best situation with a terrible disease.
Danny was a compassionate son, brother, husband, uncle, and friend to all who will be missed.
