Dave W. Chaneer died peacefully Friday morning, February 20th, 2009 after several years of declining health. He was born in Durham County, the youngest and last surviving child of Mcvay Chaneer and Maggie Marshall Chaneer. He worked for many years at the American Tobacco Company and on his family farm. He was a long-time member of Aneews Chapel UMC. He served his country honorably and bravely during WWII in North Africa and Italy where he was awarded the Distinguished Unit Citation. Dave was happiest being with family and friends, working in his garden, or just sitting with his dog Millie. He will be remembered by his easy-going manner and his playful spirit. He will be missed by his wife Margaret, his daughter Polly, his son-in-law Steve, and neerous nieces, nephews and friends. A graveside service and burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church Cemetery in Orange County. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Herman Ward Jr., minister and friend. Pallbearers will be Kenny Hicks, Calvin Hicks, Roy Shambley, Lee Williamson, J. P. Ayscue, Steve Arnold, Jim Nichols, and Greg Ayscue. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Durham. Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to Mount Hermon Baptist Church, 4511 Old NC #10, Durham, NC 27705.
