Dora Sandling Abernethy

Dora Sandling Abernethy, 92, resident of 2324 New Raleigh Hwy, died Saturday morning at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Abernethy was born in Durham County and was the daughter of the late Charles Zebulon Sandling and Mezie Coley Sandling. She was a graduate of Bethesda High School and attended Uneersity of North Carolina at Greensboro. Mrs. Abernethy retired from Sperry Rand Corporation and the Durham V.A. Hospital. Dora was preceded ineeath by her husband, James Everette Abernethy, Jr. She was a member of St. Aneews Uneed Methodist Church. Surviving are her daughter, Jan A. Jones Howard and her husband Larry of Durham Clinton A. Abernethy of Durham and her son Clinton A. Abernethy; three grandchildren, Jonathan C. Jones, Jill Jones Yancey, and her husbaneedwin; Kelly C. Jones; four great-grandchildren, Samantha C. Yancey, Edwin L. Yancey III Ely, Jackson Z Yancey and Madeline L. Yancey. Graveside services will be held 2 PM Monday, January 12, 2009 at Maplewood Cemetery, Section 4., Durham, NC. The Rev. Albert Nelius and the Rev. William Foust will preside.
