Dorothea Meredith Niles Bryan, 91, passed away at home in Oxford on Sunday, November 27, 2022. She was born in Granville County on September 19, 1931, to the late John Adam Niles and Mary Randolph Meredith Niles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Taylor Bryan, Sr., and a brother, Jack Niles, of Atlanta, Georgia.
“Cissie” was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church where her grandfather, Reuben Meredith, served as priest from 1927-1934. She was a member of St. Stephens' vestry and altar guild as well as a volunteer in the church bookstore known as Educational Liturgy Resources. She enjoyed membership in the Oxford Shakespeare Club, the Wednesday Literary Club, the Colonial Dames Society of America, and was an avid bridge player. She was an accomplished artist whose beautiful paintings are cherished by her family and friends. Her creative talents were many including gardening and floral arranging.
Surviving are her sons, Robert Taylor Bryan, Jr. (Jody) of Spotsylvania, Virginia; Benjamin Lassiter Bryan (Cindy) of Oxford; John Niles Bryan (Teresa) of Oxford; brother, Reuben Meredith Niles (Linda) of Oxford; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four nieces; five nephews; and many other beloved family members and dear friends.
Visitation will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, in the Parish Hall of St. Stephens Episcopal Church with a memorial service to follow at 2 pm in the church sanctuary with The Rt. Rev. Scott A. Benhase officiating. Interment in St. Stephens' Columbarium will immediately follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Dorothea Niles Bryan's name to St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 140 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565.
