Dorothy May Wilkinson

Dorothy May Wilkinson, 92, died Monday, March 28, 2005 at Hillcrest Convalescent Center. Born oneeptember 26, 1912, she was the daughter of Samuel Clair and Margaret Frances Cooper Wilkinson. She spent her early years in Prospect Hill, NC where she was a member of Griers Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Red Springs High School while living with her grandmother ineed Springs. NC. She attended Duke Uneersity Nursing School, graduating in 1936. She worked at Duke Hospital for about a year becoming a private duty nurse in the Durham community. Dorothy was a popular, caring nurse, loved by the many patients for whom she cared, even accompanying one patient and her family to New York City for six months before returning to Durham. In 1955, she joined the Duke School of Nursing faculty and in 1957 became House Counselor at Hanes House, dormitory for the Duke student nurses. She retired in 1978. Dorothy was honeed with a Distinguished Alumni Award from Duke in 1980. She was an active member of Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church, the Duke Alumni Association, and the P.E.O. Sisterhood
