Dorothy Ragan Pope

April 22, 1925 — December 8, 2011

Dorothy Mae Ragan Pope, 86, lost her battle with cancer after a long struggle, and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 8, 2011. She was born April 22, 1925 in Durham, NC to the late Lester B. Ragan, Sr. and Dora Mae Rogers Ragan. She was married December 24, 1943 to the late Clarence Hubert Pope also of Durham, who at that time was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. She and her husband both accepted the Lord as their Savior on the same day in April of 1949 through the ministry of Welcome Detweiler of the Gospel Center in Durham. She will be remembered by everyone she met as a strong Christian witness who loved to talk about Jesus, aneencouraged those she knew and loved to seek the Lord's will above all. She was an active member of the Durham Christian Business & Professional Women's Council and served as council president. Throughout her life she served faithfully in many different roles such as AWANA leader and choir member while also actively supporting various missionary endeavors. At the time of her home going, she was a much loved and respected resident of Pittsboro Christian Village in Pittsboro, NC. Prior to moving to PCV in 2004, she was active at Northgate Chapel in Durham and before that at Grove Park Chapel and the Gospel Center. She is survived by her four children: Larry Hubert Pope and wife Sue of Chapel Hill, Linda P. Lloyd and husband Rick of Hillsborough, Jerry Wayne Pope and wife Alice of Pittsboro, Debbie P. Quesenberry and husband Barry of Newport News, VA. Her surviving grandchildren are: Christopher Pope, Susan Pope Thomas, Julie Pope Brown, Devon Lategan, Jonathan Lategan, Lisa Lloyd Wray, Danny Lloyd, Scott Quesenberry and Kelly Quesenberry. Surviving great-grandchildren are: Lexi Wray, Drew Wray, Cassidy Lloyd, Jeremy Lloyd, and Leah Thomas. Also surviving are her sister Louise R. Hall of Belvedere, SC and her brother Lester B. Ragan, Jr. and wife Jean of Creedmoor, NC; many nieces and nephews as well as a very close friend, Charles Grob. Preceding her ineeath was her sister Betty Ragan Browning. While it has beeneery painful to lose our wonderful mother, who loved the Lord and loved us so much, we are comforted by the knowledge that she is now with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Visitation will be at Hall-Wynne Funeral Services, 396 West Street, Pittsboro, NC on Sunday from 7 to 9 pm. The Funeral Service will be conducted at Pittsboro Christian Village, Pittsboro, NC, on Monday at 10:30 am. Graveside services will be at 2 pm at Woodlawneemorial Park, 2107 Liberty Street in Durham. Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy's nee to the Benevolence Fund at Pittsboro Christian Village, 1825 East Street, Pittsboro, NC 27312 and/or to Duke Home Care and Hospice, 4321 Medical Park Drive, Durham, NC. 27704.
