Douglas "Doug" Schner

Douglas ???Doug??? Schner, passed away peacefully oneecember 8, 2015 at his residence in Durham. Doug was 78 years old. He was born ineew York City in 1937 to the late Charles and Maxine Carson Schner. Doug grew up on Long Island where he went to Woodmere Schools and was an avid member on the football, basketball and track teams. He attended Colgate Uneersity from 1955 to 1957, but Doug decided to serve his country by serving six months of active duty in the Uneed States Army. Doug also served five and a half years in the Army Reserves following his time of active duty. During his service in the reserves, Doug graduated and received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Hofstra Uneersity. In 1961 Doug married Susan Jane Rhodes and moved to Maneester, Vermont in 1968 where he was the owner of Maneester Wood. He served on neerous Town Boards as well as church affiliated boards. Doug was employed by Pizzagalli Construction Company and its real estate development arm, Pizzagalli Properites, LLC, until his retirement oneecember 31, 2004. Pizzagalli relocated Doug and his family to different locations including Poughkeepsie, NY and Durham, NC. During his tenee with Pizzagalli, he was the Development Maneer as well as the company liason for IBM???s multiple leasing requirements, during which time he developed over a million square feet of office and research buildings; the latest being an office park in Cary, NC. Mr. Schner is survived by his wife of 54 years, Susan R. Schner; his sons, Timothy Schner and Jonathan Schner; his daughters, Rebecca Schner and Abigail Underwood; his brother, Charles Schner, Jr.; his sister, Christine Wetzel and his ten grandchildren. Friends may visit from 6:00 to 8:00PM Friday, December 11, 2015 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service located at 1113 West Main Street in Durham.
