Dr. Emmett Mason Partin, 81, passed peacefully from this life to his eternal life on Monday, June 24, 2013 at Duke Medical Center. Emmett was born to the late Kenneth and Rachel Blackwood Partin on August 1, 1931. Emmett was keen on education and personal development, and in his late thirties chose to pursue his doctorate in Spanish/Education at the Uneersity of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He was conferred his PhD by the Uneersity in 1973, after having published his book and abstract, "The life, educational ideas, and work of Jose' Vasconcelos 1882-1959". Dr. Partin's work on Vasconcelos was a multi-lingual, pervasive, and unique contribution to the fields of linguistics and Hispanic education in its day. Emmett was a Professor at Temple Uneersity and the Uneersity of Pennsylvania, and later employed by the State of Delaware in the court system. Emmett is survived by his nephew, Daniel Keith Ollis and wife, Sharoneenee of Durham; his niece, Donna Ollis Quintana and husband, Glenn Gilbert of Concord; and his brother-in-law- Carroll C. Ollis of Durham, grand-nieces, Lauren Quintana, Kathleen Quintana, Kristin Mcghee and grand-nephew, Seth Mcghee. The family will receive friends 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Friday at Lakewood Baptist Church, 2100 Chapel Hill Road, Durham, where funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon. Rev. Johnny Hewett will officiate. Interment will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham. Dr. Partin's arrangements are being cared for by Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Durham.
