DURHAM- Dr. Ita Ekanem went to be with the Lord peacefully on the morning of July 11, 2015 with his family by his side. He was born oneebruary 12, 1939 in Ntan Mbat, neeria to Inyang and Nkoyo Ekanem. He completed his high school at Hope Waddell, his bachelor???s at Uneersity of Ife, his master???s and doctorate at Brown Uneersity and finally a post doctorate fellowship at Princeton Uneersity, completing his training as a statistical demographer. Returning to neeria he joined the faculty at the Uneersity of Ife for a few years before joining the Uneed Nationeeconomic Commission for Africa, in Ethiopia from which he retired in 1999. He was a highly regarded authority in the field of demography, an academic and author. His family will always remember his generous heart and fierce devotion to them, as well as his love of all things cheesecake. He always had a hearty chuckle rumbling in his belly. His memory, legacy, accomplishments and love will live on in his wife, Nkoyo, his children, Kokoete, Idorenyin (passed), Enoabasi, Akaninyene, Effiong, his grandchildren, Aiden, Ansa aneemmaleigh. Funeral Services will be held 10:00AM, Monday , July 20, 2015 at Trianee Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Casey Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
