The Reverend Earl George Dulaney, Jr., age 79, of Oxford, NC, went to his heavenly home, Tuesday, February 7, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer.
Earl was born July 26, 1943, to Earl George, Sr and Freda Lois Morris Dulaney in Dayton, Kentucky. After graduation from Dayton High School in 1962, he attended Eastern Kentucky State College for one year before entering the workplace as an insurance underwriter with the Buckeye Union and Continental Insurance Companies. During that time he pursued a B.S. degree in Business at the University of Cincinnati, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business of Administration in 1970.
In 1969, he felt the call into the United Methodist Ministry. Following the completion of his undergraduate education, he entered Duke University Divinity School where he received the Master of Divinity in 1973 and a Master of Theology in 1975. It was there that he met the love of his life, Judy Williams, who was the Divinity School Registrar. They were married June 22, 1975. Reverend Dulaney served for 39 years in the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. The churches he served were: Leasburg-Salem UMC, Roxboro, NC; Grace UMC, Burlington, NC; Benson-Elevation UMC, Benson, NC; Bethel UMC, Bethel, NC; Pleasant Grove UMC, Raleigh, NC; Nashville UMC, Nashville, NC; Tabernacle UMC, Robbins, NC; St. Luke UMC, Goldsboro, NC; Louisburg UMC, Louisburg, NC; and a 3 month interim at Marrows Chapel UMC, Bullock, NC.
On June 30, 2010, Earl and Judy retired in Oxford, where they attend Oxford United Methodist Church. Earl enjoyed filling in for Pastor’s in churches when needed. He also enjoyed time visiting family and friends, traveling, photography, attending Broadway Plays at DPAC, flower gardening and especially Duke sports. He and Judy have been avid Duke fans and Iron Duke members for 47 years.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Earl G. and Freda Morris Dulaney and sister, Mary Catherine Dulaney. He is survived by his wife, Judy; sister, Freda Smith (Jerry); nephew, Stephen Smith (Sandy); nieces: Laura Hanneken (Dan); Debbie Schwarberg (Ron); great nieces: Rachel Roach (Matt); Tessa Hanneken, and great nephew, Bradley Hanneken.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 11:00 am at Oxford United Methodist Church with visitation from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Burial will be at 3:00 pm at Sharon Baptist Church, 6746 Goshen Road, Oxford, NC 27565.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Oxford United Methodist Church, PO Box 757, Oxford, NC, 27565 or to the Louisburg United Methodist Church, 402 N. Main Street, Louisburg, NC, 27549.
