Earl Richard Wiegand, affectionately known as Richard, passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully on March 9, 2025, in Oxford, North Carolina at the age of 70. Born on November 17, 1954, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Richard's journey through life was marked by profound dedication to both his family and his profession.
Richard carved a noteworthy path as a computer programmer for IBM, where his unwavering commitment and dedication were evident. His keen intellect was complemented by an Associates Degree in Electronics, which he applied diligently to a career that not only fulfilled him professionally but also allowed him to contribute meaningfully to the ever-evolving world of technology.
Beyond his professional achievements, Richard's essence was characterized by his jolly disposition, playful spirit, and unequivocal dedication as a husband and father. He was blessed with a loving family, featuring his devoted wife of 44 years, Carol W. Wiegand, who stood by his side through all of life's seasons. Together, they nurtured a household filled with love and laughter, a legacy that will live on through their children: Christine Lee Butler (Brett), Jennifer Marie Wiegand, Patrick Scott Wallace (Debbie), and Vicki Lynn Wallace. His grandchildren, Katie and Derek Wallace, along with Jacob and Zachary McNeely, Ellie Wiegand-Reavis, and Avett and Jude Butler, were the joys of his life, bringing him boundless happiness and pride.
Richard's passions extended beyond his profession; he possessed a remarkable green thumb, delighting in gardening and cultivating a beautiful space that reflected his nurturing spirit. His love for fast cars, particularly those crafted in Germany, revealed another layer of his vibrant personality, showcasing his adventurous nature. His best furry friend, Sox, was always by his side.
He is predeceased by his beloved parents, Earl John Wiegand and Gladys Adele Eyerman Wiegand, who undoubtedly played pivotal roles in shaping the man he became.
As we remember Richard, we celebrate a life richly lived—one dedicated to family, work, and the simple joys that imbued his days with meaning. A Mass in his honor will be held on March 21, 2025, at St. James Catholic Church in Henderson, North Carolina, at 10:00 PM, a testament to the enduring love and respect he inspired.
