Edith Hilton Whitt

OXFORD: Edith Hilton Whitt, age 80 of Oxford, died Thursday, February 13, 2014. A native of Granville County, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Mabel Myers Hilton and widow of Romie Whitt. Edith was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and a homemaker. She also operated "Miss Edith's" store for a number of years. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church by Reverend Keith Williams. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Surviving are a daughter, Linda Faye W. Woodlief Steve of Oxford; a brother, Alton Hilton of Oxford, James Hilton Linda of Oxford, Harold Hilton Kate of Oxford, a daughter-in-law Holly Whitt of Oxford; her granddaughter, Jenneer Whitt-Duke Jeff; great-grandson, Joseph Duke and a special friend, Elsie Mae Wilson. She was preceded ineeath by a son, Ronee C. Whitt; brothers, Roy Hilton, Virgil Hilton, Thurman Hilton, Melvin Hilton, and Atlee Hilton. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to E. C. and Mabel Hiltoneemetery Fund, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, c/o Leonard Daniel, 109 Meadow Heights, Oxford, NC 27565. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the service, in the fellowship hall of the church and at other times at the home of Harold and Kate Hilton.
