Edna May Riggsbee

Durham- Edna May Riggsbee, 95, of Durham, NC, died on Thursday, June 8, at The Pruitt Healthcare Center in Durham. She was born April 16, 1922 to Ethel and Brodie Clark in Chapel Hill, NC.?? Edna lived her entire life in Durham and Chapel Hill.?? She attended Hope Valley School in Durham from the first grade until high school graduation.?? After high school, she attended Mars Hill College for one year and then completed secretarial training at Croft's Business School in Durham.?? In the 1940's, she worked as a secretary at the Institute of Government in Chapel Hill,?? N.C.?? On April 14, 1946, Edna married her husband, James Philip Riggsbee, at Ephesus Baptist Church.?? They were very happily married for 53 years.?? After the birth of her first child, Edna became a?? homemaker and devoted caregiver to her family.?? Edna was a life long member of Ephesus Baptist Church. She served many years as a Sunday School teacher and was very supportive of the church throughout her life.?? She also served many years with her husband in the Gideon's International in the auxiliary. Edna was a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and a fantastic cook and seamstress. She was a good friend to many.?? Most importantly, Edna was an excellent Christian example to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by her son Jim Riggsbee and his wife, Melissa, of Durham; her daughter Carolyn Marie Riggsbee, of Durham; her grandson, David Riggsbee, of Durham; her granddaughter, Laura Castellucci and her husband, Matthew of Durham.?? She was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Philip Riggsbee and parents, Brodie Clark aneethel Clark. ?? The service will be on Monday, June 12, 2017, at Ephesus Baptist Church in Chapel Hill. It will start at 2:00 pm, and there will be a visitation an hour prior at 1:00 pm. Flowers will be accepted, and memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon???s International.
