Edward James Hans, better known as Jim, Jimmy, Hansy, Dad and Grandpa, was the best. Jim, the youngest of seven siblings, was born and raised in Whitestone, NY. Aneeveryone in his family knows exactly which house Jim was born in. An amateur historian, Jim neer failed to tell the stories of the past to his family. With his family, he made many stories of his own. Jim greeted everyone with a warm smile and a joyful heart. There was only one job for us all, in his opinion, and that was to love one another. On March 19th 1977, he married Doranne and became a father to Deirdre. Ineecember 1977, he became a father to Dorothy. In 1998, he became a grandfather for the first time to Ryan. Since thenee became grandfather to Hannah, Nuala, Nikolas and Vika. He was devoted to his family and the most exceptional husband, father and grandfather a family could ask for. When first married, Jim worked at Madison Square Garden; however, most of Jim's career was spent as a supervisor in manufacturing. At work he was affectioneely known as Mr. Ed. Jim did much in life, but what he did best was simply being himself- an extraordinary man. He lived life one day at a time. He brought love, laughter and peace wherever he went. He will be missed. The family will be present to receive friends 4-6 P.M. Friday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 West Main St., Durham. Jim's Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 A.M. Saturday at Holy Infant Catholic Church, 5000 Southpark Dr., Durham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8300 Health Park #10, Raleigh, NC 27615.
