Edward Plonski died Friday in Duke Hospice at the Meadowlands following a brief illness. He was born July 13, 1916 in Astoria, NY. A Durham resident since his military service, Ed proudly served his country in the 78th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during WWII. He spent a career in sales with Durham Builders Supply Co. Ed was a devoted parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. A man who loved life and lived it to the fullest, Ed Plonski loved to dance, and was a member of the Toppers and several dance groups. He and his late wife, Margaret, enjoyed many trips with the 55-Plus group from their church. Ed was also a member of the Durham Elks Lodge, and was an exalted ruler. Ed Plonski will be remembered for his generosity, warmth, ability to tell a great story and his dependable wisdom. Surviving are his daughter, Carolyn P. Blackwood and husband, Steve of Durham; grandchildren, Jeffrey Blackwood and his wife, Braneey of Durham and Joseph Blackwood and his wife, Laura of Harrisburg; a great granddaughter, Lainey Blackwood; and a brother, Joseph Plonski in Long Island, NY. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret in 1998. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 11:00 AM Monday from Immaculate Conception Church. Interment with military honors will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Friends may visit 3-6 PM Sunday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. Memorial donations may be made to Duke Community Hospice Service.
