Edwin Donald Shotwell

October 22, 1933 — August 4, 2024

Roxboro

Edwin Donald Shotwell, affectionately known as Donald to his loved ones, departed peacefully in his home on Sunday, August 4, 2024. He graced this world on October 22, 1933, in Granville County, born to the late Willie Flournoy Shotwell and Annie Belle Glasscock Shotwell.

Dedicated to the land as a lifelong farmer, our dear Daddy cherished the value of hard work. Serving in the Army as Military Police, he returned home to cultivate tobacco on the family farm. His career led him to the USDA Tobacco Division where he retired as a tobacco inspector (Grader). Donald found joy in woodworking, relished a good game of baseball, and treasured moments spent with his family. His kind and giving nature endeared him to many, always ready to share a compelling tale.

Forever cherished by his sons, Edwin "Butch" Shotwell Jr., Steve Shotwell (Kelly), and John Shotwell (Deborah-deceased), along with five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Donald now reunites in eternity with his beloved wife of 64 years, Wilhelmina Morris Shotwell, his parents, sister Eva Shotwell Currin, and brothers J.B. Shotwell, Allie Shotwell, and Clifton Shotwell.

The celebration of Donald's life will take place at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 11:30 am in the chapel officiated by Reverend Carroll Glasscock. A visitation for family and friends is scheduled from 10:30 am to 11:15 am; all are welcome to pay their respects. Following the service, burial will be held at the family cemetery at home.

In memory of Donald's legacy, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Amedisys, ATTN: Amedysis Foundation, 3854 American Way, Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA 70816. The family expresses gratitude to all friends and caregivers for their support. Donald lived a fulfilled and blessed life.
