Eleanor Schwien Womble, 88, of Old Graham Rd. in Pittsboro, died Thursday December 4, 2008 at Chatham Hospital in Siler City, NC. Eleanor was born oneebruary 18, 1920 in southern Maryland, the youngest and beloved daughter of Otto and Selma Schwien. She was a member of the 1936 Surrattsville High School Championship girls' volleyball team, and graduated from school with honors. As a young career woman in Washington, DC, she was employed with the US Chamber of Commerce. In 1945, she married Harvey C. Womble and was the loving mother of two children. Eleanor was a superb homemaker, always welcoming friends and family to her home. She is survived by a son, Richard Womble and wife Dottie, of Charlotte, NC; a daughter, Peggy Bolejack and husband Don, of Pittsboro, NC; grandchildren Chad Bolejack, Megan Bolejack, Brian Womble, and Keith Womble; and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded ineeath by her husband, Harvey Womble, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be Sunday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m at Griffin Funeral Service in Pittsboro. Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Chatham Uneed Methodist Church in Pittsboro, Rev. Pat Sykes and Rev. Tom Danek officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
