CHAPEL HILL - Elizabeth ???Betty??? Worth Caldwell of Chapel Hill passed away on July 4, 2016. She was born in Durham on March 2, 1925 to the late Thomas C. Worth and Bessie P. Worth. Betty was educated at Mary Baldwin College and Duke Uneersity and soon after went to work for UNC in the student aid department. She married James R. Caldwell June 16, 1962. Betty loved to entertain and was quite a gourmet cook. She was also an avid swimmer and tennis player. She was a faithful member of Uneersity Presbyterian Church for many years, singing in the Choir and serving as chairman of the Flower Committee. Betty was Chapel Hill???s Woman of the Year in 1984; President of the Public Library; President of the Preservation Society; President of the Uneersity Woman???s Club and was a leader of the UNC Bicentennial Committee. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James R. Caldwell and her brother, Thomas Clarkson Worth, Jr. She is survived by step-daughter Meredith C. Oates and husband, John Oates of Nashville, TN and their children, David Oates and wife, Jane Fleagle; James Caldwell Oates and wife, Jenneer; Larkin Oates and their children. She is also survived by her brother Clarkson Worth???s family, daughter Peggy Worth St.George and husband, Bill of Charlotte and their children, Myers St.George; Worth St.George; Shannon St.George Pickerel and husband Bob and their children; and Tommy Worth and wife Diana of Greensboro. The family sends heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the caregivers at the Health Center at Carol Woods Retirement Community. The Memorial Service will be held at Carol Woods in the Assembly Hall on Saturday July 16 at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to Uneersity Presbyterian Church in Chapel Hill.
