Elizabeth Nash McGavisk, 75, died Tuesday at home following an extended illness. A native of Plattsburgh, NY, she was a Durham resident since 1990. Betty spent her career as a Registered Nurse, having worked within the full range of nursing, including the hospital, nursing homes and private practice. She retired in 2001 from the office of Dr. Sabrina Mentock. As a gifted caregiver, Betty made the most of her retirement, voluneering for the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels and at Holy Infant Catholic Church. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and friend. Surviving are her children, John F. McGavisk of Charlotte and Margaret M. Rondeau and husband, Doug of Ausable Forks, NY; a brother, Leo Nash of Durham; and grandchildren, Madison and Hannah Rondeau. Her husband, Thomas E. McGavisk, predeceased her in 1982. A Funeral Mass will be said at 9:00 AM Friday from Holy Infant Catholic Church, with Fr. John E. McGee, OSFS presiding. Burial will be at a later date in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Plattsburgh, NY. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Americaneed Cross.
