Erma Flynn Poole

Erma Flynn Poole, a resident of 2500 Fairlawn Rd., died Friday, January 18, 2008. She was born October 12, 1907 in Lynchburg, VA to the late Richard Emmett Flynn and Mary Alice Barbour Flynn. She moved with her parents from Lynchburg, VA to Durham in 1928. Mrs. Poole was a loving wife and mother, devoting her entire life to her family. She was a great example to her children and grandchildren of honesty and fairness. Mrs. Poole was a charter member of the Braggtown Baptist Church, where she was a teacher in the Childrens Department for 41 years. Ineer later years, she was a member of the Carver Sunday School Class. Mrs. Poole was preceded ineeath by her husband, George Louis Poole and her daughter, Rosebud Flynn Poole Whitfield. She is survived by her son, Richard Graves Poole; her daughter, Betty Poole Whitfield and husband, J. Madison Whitfield; and her daughter, Carol Poole Smith and husband, Carlie G. Smith, all of Durham; and five grandchildren: Louis Whitfield, Dick Whitfield, Beth Whitfield Stansbury, Jim Whitfield, Becky Whitfield Belk and Carla Smith Harrison; and nee great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, January 21, 2008 from the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service with Norman Stallings presiding. Burial will follow in Woodlawneemorial Park. The family will receive visitors prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 PM in the funeral home and other times at her sons home at 2500 Fairlawn Rd. Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to the Carver Sunday School Class of Braggtown Baptist Church, 3218 N. Roxboro Rd., Durham, NC 27704.
