Mr. Ernest Frederick Ernie Licht, 80, of Pittsboro died July 23, 2007 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford. Ernie was borneecember 14, 1926 in Wayne Co., MI to Ernest Jacob and Violetta Zimmer Licht. He served in the US Navy, and was a retired Sales Engineer for SKF manufacturer of ball bearings. He relocated to Pittsboro 21 years ago and became active in the community, working for CORA food pantry and working the polls on voting days. Ernie was extremely involved with Chatham Habitat for Humanity where he served in various capacities from house construction to working in the Habitat store. Ernie was an avid sports enthusiast, and was a die-hard, devoted fan of the Detroit Tigers. He is survived by his wife, Carol D. Licht; his daughter, Kimberly Shields, of FL; step-son, Johneennox of Chapel Hill; step-daughters, Linda Romans of VT, Nancy McLendon of Pittsboro, Barbara Palermo of Raleigh; a sister, Jean Scolnick of MI; grandchildren, Adam, Katie, Troy, and Lisabeth; and 4 great-grandchildren. Ernie's life will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Griffin Funeral Service & Cremation, with Karen Ladd presiding. Friends may visit with the family from 6 - 8 pm Friday at the funeral home. The family respectfully requests memorials to Chatham Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 883, Pittsboro, NC 27312.
