Eunice Mangum Wilkins, was welcomed into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was reunited with family and friends following years of declining health on October 6, 2024 at Duke Regional Hospital. The daughter of the late S. Tommie and Grace Pruitt Mangum, she was a dedicated mother, grandmother, GG, aunt, and friend.
Eunice graduated from Berea High School in 1958,and 5 days after her 18th birthday, she married Rennie L. Wilkins, to whom she was married for 56 years before his passing in 2015.
It was the autumn of 1971 when she joined the staff of CCB and embarked on a career in banking that would span over 40 years until her retirement in 2012. Prior to that, she had been employed at the ASCS Office. Always wanting to be the best she could be and to broaden her knowledge base, she attended classes at Durham Technical Institute. In 1990, she joined the staff at Granville United Bankand retired in 1996. In 1998 she joined Community National Bank-now Carter Bank & Trust. During her tenure with these institutions, she held positions as a teller, vault teller, head teller, was a certified teller trainer, customer service manager, loan officer, and had attained the position as branch manager when she retired in 2012. Through the years, she formed many friendships with her customers, as she became their personal banker, carrying out her duties with integrity.
A lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church-now Trinity Crossroads Methodist Church, she thrived on serving her Lord in whatever capacity He called her to fulfill, meticulous and faithful to the tasks set before her. She was a certified lay speaker in the United Methodist Church, served as communion steward, on the Administrative Counsel,Pastor Parish Relations and Parsonage Committees, secretary of the Methodist Women, secretary/treasurer of the parking lot fund, as a Sunday School teacher, youth and MYF leader. Those who were in youth group and Sunday schoolunder her leadership still recall happy memories of activities together, including annual summer trips to White Lake.
She always believed that if she set her mind to something, she could do it with God’s help. Her artwork, floral arranging, and decorating were among some of her favorite activities.
She loved and was so proud of her family and was the epitome of strength, perseverance, and determination, and always encouraged us to be our best. Though she faced numerous health challenges, her faith never wavered.
She is survived by her two daughters, DonnaWilkins-Preddy (John), Bonita W. Tingen (Jeff) her four grandchildren John Peyton Wilkins Preddy (Meredith), Amelia Grace Preddy Johnson (Ryan), Olivia Carol Tingen, Reagan Elise Tingen, her great grandchildren Brayden T. Scott Johnson, John Reese Preddy, Anna Katherine Preddy, and Adalynn Grace Johnson, niece Tammy O. Miller, nephew Tommy R. Oakley, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and her husband, her sister Ruenell Mangum Oakley preceded her in death. Three older siblings, Nelson Thomas Mangum, Juanita Mangum, and Augustus (Baby Boy) Mangum passed away before she was born.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Slaughter, Kamden Oakley, Paul Janok, Dennis Medlin, Jeff Wilkins, andNat Wilkins. Honorary pallbearer will be Tommy Oakley.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, October 12 from 5:30-7:00 at Gentry, Newell, and Vaughan Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Bonita and Jeff Tingen.
Funeral Services will be held at Trinity Crossroads Methodist Church on Sunday, October 13 at 3:00 with the Reverends Mike Smith and Jack Ruth officiating. Entombment will be in the church cemetery.
