Frances Chester Whitaker

Frances Chester Whitaker, 80, of Pittsboro died neember 21, 2008 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill following a period of declining health. Frances was born August 18, 1928 in Chatham County, the daughter of Ralph Aneew Chester and Clara Louise Seagroves Chester. She was a lifelong, very active member of Pittsboro Presbyterian Church. Frances operated her owneeauty salon, and was a hairdresser for Griffin Funeral Service for quite some time. She enjoyed the beach, loved to fish, read, cooking and working crossword puzzles. Frances loved her family and was the caretaker for almost all of them as long as she was able to do so. She is survived by her sons, Scott Whitaker and Don Whitaker, both of Pittsboro; her daughter, Clara Lynn Richardson of Pittsboro; a sister, Hurdaleneellis of Pittsboro; a brother, Gene Chester of Broadway; and seven grandchildren. Her husband, Straughn Whitaker, a sister, Anee-Donnah McKay, and a brother, Wayne Chester, preceded her ineeath. The service to celebrate Frances' life will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, neember 25, 2008 from Pittsboro Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Troy Lesher-Thomas presiding. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Monday at Griffin Funeral Service in Pittsboro.
