Frederick Page Carpenter, Jr. died suddenly from a heart attack on Monday, October 19, 2009 while working in his pallet business that he loved so much. Born and raised in Durham County in the Shady Grove Community on Carpenter Pond Road, he was the son of the late Frederick Page Carpenter, Sr. and Mary Fuller Carpenter. In 1975, he graduated from Southern High School and then attended East Carolina Uneersity. After working with C.W. Transport and Consolidated Freightways, Mr. Carpenter opened Carpenter Pallet - a pallet & recycling business in Oxford. He was a member of Leesville Road Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was the Assistant Scout Master of Troop 490 at Durham Memorial Baptist Church. Fred was also a member of Oak Grove Athletic Association where he coached for many years. Fred loved his family and his country and was a man of his word. He worked diligently for his family and will be remembered for his compassion and willineess to help others. He was an avid outdoorsmaneespecially activities involving children. Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Kathy Thorne Carpenter of the home; son, Matthew Caleb Carpenter of the home; daughter, Katherine Anne Carpenter of Durham; sister, Eloise Carpenter Shepherd and husband Charles E. Shepherd; father-in-law, Eugene Allen Thorne; sister-in-law, Margaret Weatherly Thorne; three nieces; two nephews and one niece-in-law. In addition to his parents, he was preceded ineeath by his son, John Christopher Carpenter 1989 and brother-in-law, Howard Phillip "Chuck" Thorne. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Durham Memorial Baptist Church. Friends may visit Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Boy Scouts of America, the American Cancer Society, Durham Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund 133 Robbins Road, Durham, NC 27703 or to the Psoriasis Foundation.
