Garland Wyatt Lane, affectionately known as "Buck," passed away on January 18, 2025, in Oxford, North Carolina, at the age of 75. Buck was born on January 20, 1949, in Franklin County, North Carolina, to his late parents, William Wyatt Lane and Vallie Boyd Lane.
A man of strong will and dedication, Buck served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. His time in the military not only shaped his character but also equipped him with valuable skills. He learned to operate heavy machinery, which he put to use upon returning home by becoming a heavy equipment operator at the county landfill. Throughout his career, he was known for his quiet demeanor and hard-working ethic, traits that endeared him to his colleagues.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Buck was a proud Vietnam Veteran, having earned several commendations, including the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. His service reflected his deep commitment to his country and community.
Buck is survived by his daughter, Angela L. Oakley (Andy); son, Jason Lane (Tina O); granddaughter, Britteny (Tom) Perkins; grandsons, Austin Oakley and Jacob Lane; great-granddaughter, Emery Lane; and brothers, Grady B. Lane, Kenny W. Lane (Beverly), and sisters, Jerry Dickerson, Velma Daeke (Larry) and Bonnie Ayscue. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Gail Lane. He will be deeply missed by many friends and extended family members too numerous to name.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Lane, and his siblings, including sister, Margaret L. Quill and brothers, Earl Lane and Charles A. Lane, as well as his granddaughter, Makayla Lane and his, great-grandchild, Kelly "Jelly Bean".
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford, North Carolina, followed by a funeral service from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at the same location. Burial will occur at a later date in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Buck Lane will be remembered for his unwavering spirit, dedication to his family, and the legacy of hard work he leaves behind.
