George Carroll

Mr. George Bailey Big Apple Carroll, 69 of Acorn Lane, Pittsboro, died October 12, 2007 at UNC Hospitals. Big Apple was born August 14, 1938 in Chatham County, a son of James C. Carroll and Julia Roberson Carroll. He was a member of the Jaycees; he also was an automobile racer, driving both oval track cars as well as drag strip cars. Big Apple was a milk distributor for Sealtest, and later for Flav-O-Rich, retiring in 2003. He was a member of Chatham Uneed Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Janet Sparks Carroll; two sons, Chris Carroll of Sanford, and Steve Carroll of Pittsboro; his sister, Sarah Frances Post of Pittsboro; his brother, Paul Carroll of Pittsboro; one grandson; and three step-grandchildren. The service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, October 15, 2007 at Chatham Uneed Methodist Church. Rev. Lee Edwards and Rev. Bob Wachs will preside. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday night from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at Griffin Funeral Service in Pittsboro.
