George McClellan “Mac” Hendrick, age 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 15, 2022. He was the son of the late John William Hendrick and Gladys Brown Hendrick. Mac began his full life in Granville County, NC on October 27, 1938. Mac was the husband of Sylvia Surratt Hendrick for 65 years, but they had known each other since they were in 3rd grade.
Mac was a quiet man who believed in hard work. He joined the Air Force in 1956 and was stationed in Florida and France. When he came home from serving the US, he began working with Vestal Surratt in the sawmill. Throughout his life, he worked at the machine shop, farmed, ran a restaurant and was a man of many talents. Most of all, Mac was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was also a loyal friend and carried a strong faith and huge supporter of his church. Mac was the most patient, kind hearted and loving man that one may ever know.
Mac is survived by his wife, Sylvia Surratt Hendrick; his sons, John Vestal Hendrick and Wesley McClellan Hendrick (Denise), all of Oxford, NC. He leaves behind two sisters, Sandra H. Berry and Jane Rose H. Snipes and 4 grandchildren, Jessica Elaine Hendrick Winston (Alexander), Daniel Hendrick, Lydia Hendrick and Noah Hendrick; and also 2 great-grandchildren, Seth Alexander Winston and Logan Douglas Winston. He will be greatly missed by many extended family and friends too numerous to name.
Mac is predeceased by his parents, his brother, John Thomas Hendrick and 2 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 3:00 pm at Geneva Presbyterian Church and will be officiated by Reverend Cam Ford. A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Geneva Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.
The family requests that all attendees wear appropriate face coverings and adhere to the safe practice of social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mac’s memory to the Geneva Presbyterian Church, Attention: Jeff Stephenson, 4510 James Royster Road, Oxford, NC, 27565.
