Gordoneee Chaneer, 60, resident of 910 Constitution Avenue, died Sunday at his home. Lee was born in Durham. He was a graduate of Southern High School and attended Atlantic Christian College. Lee served in the U.S. Navy. For the last several years he has been employed with the Duke Uneersity Medical Center. He was a member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church. Lee was first to call when UNC had a victory, but refused to aneer when Duke won! Lee had a "true coolness" that made him unique. He played piano and had a beautiful tenor voice. It would be no surprise that Lee would step up on stage and join a local band using one of his many beloved blues harps. Lee was preceded ineeath by his wonderful and much loved parents, Gordon and Linda Chaneer. Surviving are his sisters, Judi Claire Chaneer and Ann Chaneer Darcy and husband, Steve, all of Winston-Salem, NC ; a niece, Katie Ann and son Cameron of Wilmington, NC and a nephew, Jake of New York; his Aunt and Unee, Margaret and Walker Stone and cousins, Sid Stone and wife Tara and Clint Stone and wife, Carroll all of Durham Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held 2 pm Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Olive Branch Baptist Church, Durham, NC. The Rev. Tim Wheeler and the Rev Dr. Gerald C. Goodwin will preside. Burial will be in church cemetery. Flowers are acceptable, or donations ineee's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
