Graham Tineey Moore

Oxford Graham Tineey Moore, age 88, of Oxford, NC, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at home with his family. Born on January 23, 1925 in Roxboro, NC, he was the son of the late George Ervin Moore and Nell Tineey Moore. He moved to Oxford in 1937 when his father started Save A Penny Grocery on College St., which operative until 1966. Mr. Moore graduated from Oxford High School and joined the U.S. Navy in 1943. He attended neerous colleges as part of his aviation training and was commissioned as a Lieutenant in 1944. He was later part of a fighter squadron bound for Japan in the summer of 1945. He remained in the Naval Reserves, stationed in Norfolk, Virginia until 1952. Mr. Moore was a successful business owner and investor, having founded, owned and operated Hancock Bonded Warehouses in Butner, NC from 1956 until 2000. A long time member of Oxford Uneed Methodist Church, he was past Chairman of the Trustees, usher, and Sunday School teacher. He served on Oxford Board of Adjustments for over 40 years; was past President of the Jaycees; Boy Scout Leader and Occoneechee Council Man of the Year; and a member of AL Post #90. He married Lucy Landis Hancock on June 17, 1948 in the garden of her parent's Oxford home and they remain married for 64 years. He is survived by Lucy and their children; Lucy Landis Moore; Graham Tineey Moore, Jr., and his wife Elizabeth Blalock Moore of Fayetteville, NC; Franeervin Moore and his wife Sharon Moore of Raleigh, NC; Richard Hancock Moore and his wife Noel Moore of Kittrell, NC; and six grandchildren, Daniel Ervin Moore, Katherine Landis Moore, Graham Tineey Moore, III, William Holdsworth Moore, Charles Hancock Moore, and Mary Eleanor Moore. Mr. Moore is also survived by his sister, Hattie Moore Garrison, of Richmond, Virginia. His brothers, George and Henry are deceased. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Oxford Uneed Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church before the service beginning at 12:30 P.M.
