Helen B. Hite

Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Blanks Hite, age 90, of Oxford, NC, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. She was the daughter of Annie Belle Pettigrew (dec.) and George Vincent Blanks (dec.), and began her full life in Buffalo Junction/Lithia Springs area of Mecklenburg County on July 27, 1934. Helen was the wife of the late William “Billy” Carroll Hite for 72 years.

Helen was a woman of strength and character. As a young woman, she worked in the office at Burlington Industries in Halifax, VA, and later at Burlington in Oxford, when she and Billy moved to a new home in North Carolina. Helen loved her family, and this love extended to her nieces and nephews and to caring for her neighbors. She was a lover of nature and her flowers, and had several dogs and a bunny. Lately, she enjoyed caring for birds and deer that visited her yard. She was talented at cross-stitching, doll collection and creating floral arrangements. She also enjoyed completing large puzzles and the challenge of Bible-themed word search books. Helen and her late husband were members of the Hitesburg Baptist Church, and attending televised worship services became a valued part of her life. Helen will be greatly missed by those who can remember her joy, her resilience and her service to family and beyond.

Helen is survived by a grandson, Christopher Michael Hite (Norrissa), by great grandsons, Dillon Hite (Samantha), Logan Hite and Bradley Rozel (Abby), by two great great grandchildren, Conner and Jackson Hite, and by daughter-in-law, Debra Moorefield Hite.

Helen came from a large family, and was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 3 brothers. She is survived by one sister. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Billy; and recently her son, Michael Hite.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Hitesburg Baptist Church with Reverend Ian Rigney officiating. A burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. Hitesburg Baptist Church is located at 2215 Hitesburg Church Road, Virgilina, VA 24598.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Helen’s memory to the Hitesburg Baptist Church.
